The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Emergency Management has asked local governments to provide the following information and to remind its Citizens of their responsibility to recogize the realities of a possible biological, chemical, or nuclear terrorist attack.  The Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, and the Department of Justice have asked governmental jurisdictions throughout the United States to become familiar with the aspects of domestic and international terrorism.

The following biological agents have been identified by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as substances that could be used for weapons of mass destruction.

The following chemical agents have been identified by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as substances that could be used for weapons of mass destruction.  Terrorists have used chemical agents against civilians.  Terrorist incidents in Japan in 1994 and 1995 caused worldwide reconsideration of chemical warfare agents as terrorist weapons.  Iraq is also reported to have used chemical agents against Iran in the 1980s.
