The Town of Warrenton Police Department is pleased to announce their partnership with Project Lifesaver International, whose primary mission is to provide a timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, and other related conditions or disorders. The Project Lifesaver Program is now available to the Town’s citizens.  With a generous grant awarded by an anonymous donor and the PATH Foundation, Warrenton Police Officers have received specialized training and equipment to aid them in locating lost or missing adults and children, who participate in the program.

Project Lifesaver (PLS) is designed to provide security and comfort for the family while safeguarding the memory-impaired, and those who are least able to care for themselves.

What is Project Lifesaver?
An answer to the 24 hour a day uncertainty, fear, and stress that a loved one feels who cares for a person who suffers from Alzheimer’s, Autism, Head Trauma, or any other form of Dementia or Cognitive Disability. A lost child with Autism or Down Syndrome, or an adult who is missing as a result of a medical condition such as Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia, constitutes a critical emergency and presents a challenge to first responders in a search and rescue operation. While we cannot predict when a person will go missing, we can prepare.

How does it work?

  • Potential clients are interviewed and oriented to the Warrenton PLS program.
  • Those at risk are fitted with a wrist or ankle recovery transponder.
  • If someone goes missing, a quick call to 911 activates the process of identification and deployment of recovery personnel on foot, and vehicle. (recovery time averages 30 minutes vs. 8 hours or more without PLS)
  • Without PLS, it is “Find me... a needle in a haystack.” With PLS it is the lifesaving difference of “I am here….Come get me.”

How much does it cost?

Unlkie other Project Lifesaver programs, there is no cost to enroll a loved one in our program, due to the generousity of our donors. Each client is outfitted with a transmitter and battery tester.

What we can do for you

  • Identify individuals who are at risk of becoming lost and endangered.
  • Connect to other resources.
  • Monthly follow-up by a Police Officer will ensure information is current and equipment is working. This will assist police in the search effort should the client become lost.
  • All information regarding the client and family is confidential and only used for emergency situations. Access is restricted to first responders.

How can I get more information?
Contact Lt. George Southard at (540) 347-1107 or by emailing gsouthard@warrentonva.gov to receive additional information or to enroll an individual in the program.
