The Warrenton Police Department has partnered with the Disability Independence Group to provide free personalized wallet cards to individuals in our community who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Wallet Card Project, first successfully launched by the Coral Gables (FL) Police Department, facilitates effective communication between law enforcement and persons with ASD to avoid any misunderstandings. Much like medical bracelets, the wallet cards are designed to convey crucial personal and medical information to law enforcement or medical personnel in situations where a person may be incapacitated or otherwise incapable of communicating to the people treating him or her.
In addition to being a valuable resource for residents, all members of the Warrenton Police Department will receive training on The Wallet Card and ASD. The Wallet Card is a free resource available for teens and adults with ASD. The card helps individuals communicate clearly with law enforcement and includes information such as the person’s name, disability, emergency contact, and any specific triggers which can help alleviate any misunderstandings.
